É algo do passado.

The Kills - Jo Whiley Sessions 2011 I totally love this band. So inspiring! My ego is zero... Specially when it comes down to my music, or the music i create. I can live with criticism. It's part of being a musician. Of being an artist. You have to accept the fact that there are people out there that may, or may not like your music. You should not be offended by that. Nor should you take it personally, or take it as a negative thing. But rather, just take it as it is. And keep doing your thing. What makes you happy. Because no matter how good of a songwriter or musician you are, you will never be able to please everyone. Simple as fucking that.
Streaming platforms are a way to get easy money out of hard working artists. Artists get ripped off every fucking time. One thing is guaranteed. Someone is making a lot of money, but not the artists and the bands. That's for sure. Hope things change sometime soon. Some people have no idea how hard a band, a singer song writer needs to work to get their music out there.
I prefer to just give my music away than give to streaming platforms where they make easy money. And what they give to the artists is nothing short of a joke. I always try put it that way... I can't stand the sound of Hip-Hop and modern R&B. Yet it is one of the most famous genres of music in the world. Does it mean it is not good? No! It means i don't like it. A good and a bad song, is determined by the person who listen to it. Simple! There's no such thing as good or bad music. There is what you like, and what you don't. Thing is... when you write a song and the song doesn't fit the current trend. No one will like it. If you don't follow the rules of music writing and formula. It will be considered bad or rubbish!
So just make music the way it comes out of you and fuck what anyone thinks. Record it, release it, and let others judge it.
Sozinho se for preciso. I like to keep it as real as possible... I love music for as long as i can remember. It as been a big parte of my life, together with painting. Which is another one of my passions and something that makes me super happy. But Art and painting was something that came later in my life. When i was about 19 years old i believe. Music was and has been there for me, forever, as far as i am concerned. And when i say music, i mean music. Not a genre. Of course i don't like all genres of music. But i do like a lot of different ones. Like: Punk, Metal, Indie, Shoegaze, Alternative, Folk, Dream pop, Jazz, New wave and so on... I will not include Hip-Hop or R&B because i can't fucking stand that kind of music. I truly hate it! Nothing against anyone who likes it.
Anyway...that being the reason... when i write music or when i am composing i don't think in terms of genre, or specific style. Because when you love so many genres of music, those influences are going to show up here and there. Fact! And to me that's the beauty of music. Is to be able to take it all in, and turn it into one thing. Or at least try. I think that Templo Dos Martyrs has a little bit of all the music i personally love. So when i write a song, i don't care if it sounds more like this or that style, or genre. If it sounds good to my hear, it becomes a song and it will find it's way to Templo Dos Martyrs.
Criar, escrever. E enquanto as pessoas negativas á tua volta perdem tempo a reclamar do teu trabalho. There are many things i love about Kurt Cobain and he's music. First and foremost. Was that fact that he didn't give a fuck about the status quo when it came down to his music and the way he approached it. To him was all about the songs. Not so much about big productions and big sounds. Or lyrics that made 100% sense. With Kurt everything was abstract and had a mystic to it. He liked to keep things simple. In fact super simple. Not only that. He used super cheap guitars, cheap amps and pedals. Proving to anyone that you don't need expensive gear to sound great or become one of the greatest bands in the world.
I don't want to sound like i am talking rubbish here. I of course can't prove to you all that what i am about to say here, is true or false. So you just have to take my word for it, i guess!!! But long before i even knew or heard Nirvana, i had that same thinking, feelings and approach to music. still do to this day. Sure Templo Dos Martyrs does have a lot of sounding layers, but it is all pretty simple songwriting technics. There's no complicated parts to our music. No virtuoso shit going on. I keep it simple and if it feels good and has a good vibe, it's finished. Our recording technics are primitive to say the least. We wouldn't want it any other way. Anyway! back to Kurt. The D.I.Y approach to everything Kurt did, inspires me to these day. Being a musician... is all about wanting to do it. Having a vision and going for it. Without being afraid of trying it for as long as it takes, and accepting fails. Yet never stoping. Moving forward, even if only to please yourself. There's nothing and no one that can tell you, that you can't do it. The struggle sometimes makes it all more appetising. -Nuno Evaristo |
